Baby Austin and Beautiful Mother

I'll have to blog about Christmas when I get back to Provo, but I had to post this adorable picture of Austin with his mom. Original artwork done by Austin Tyler Fife. :)

Tim Tam Slams!

Today I introduced Austin to the experience of Tim Tam Slams and his life has been changed forever. I decided it's not fair for us to hog all the fun so here is the procedure:

1. Make a cup of hot chocolate.

2. Get your Tim Tam cookies ready.

3. Bite off two corners diagonal from each other.

4. Using your cookie like a straw, stick one end in the chocolate and the other to your mouth and suck like crazy until the cookie is melty and you can't suck anymore through.

5. SLAM the cookie into your mouth before it falls apart in your hand. Glorious.

I guess it is originally an Australian thing, but you can find Tim Tams at Macey's because they are made by Pepperidge Farm. Amazing!

Austin's nap

Well I guess Austin is rubbing off on me, cuz I like shrimp now and I take naps. Austin is king of the 10 minute power nap, I usually just wake up after 20 minutes with a headache wondering "what was I thinking," wishing I'd just waited till bedtime. However, yesterday I took a Sunday afternoon nap with Austin and woke up feeling great! I sat up in shock! One point to Austin. So after my practical final early this morning, I came home and slipped into bed next to Austin and just watched him sleep. I am SO BLESSED! I couldn't even fall back to sleep because I was thinking about how I loved being married to that man drooling all over his pillow. We have a beautiful place to live, the snow is gorgeous, we have rockin' studded snow tires, it's Christmas time, I made and ate fudge yesterday, we have the best friends, we get to be with family in Nauvoo this Christmas, Austin has a great job and works very hard, we are attending BYU, our fridge is full, our rent is paid, our water is hot, I made something cool for Jordan for Christmas, and I'm not sick anymore! So happy Monday everyone, and wish us luck on finals this week!

Austin: Lobster chef extraordinaire!

Mom requested lobster for her birthday dinner, and since no one knew how to prepare it Austin came up with a genius method and they were great!

Austin and Mom enjoyed them the most, closely followed by Alex, a Korean homestay student. Dad passed on shellfish, and I gave mine to mom. I think the boys were more excited by the cool looking shells when they were done eating than the actual meat.

Oh Jay J....

Look how colorful the tails were!
Happy Birthday mom!

Thanksgiving in Cedar

Austin and I drove down to Cedar City to be with my family for Thanksgiving. We had a blast! I was able to hike Angel's Landing with my fam, and Austin was able to get some school work done. Thankgiving day was filled with yummy smells, a lively game of Risk, and a delicious feast. Friday was my mom's birthday and at her request we had a lobster dinner! None of us had a clue how to prepare lobster so Austin jumped in and "spearheaded that project." He turned out to be quite the gourmet! More pictures coming!

My Wonderful Husband!

Since it is our 4 month, 12 day, and 4 hour wedding anniversary, and because he gives me hundreds of reasons to want to celebrate, I dedicate this blog post to Austin Tyler Fife, the best thing that ever happened to me. I love you!

What's goin' on!

We went to a Utah Jazz game! Austin earned the tickets from Linx, and we had a blast! Pictures coming soon. We even got free hats. We walked right by the high school where they filmed High School Musical, so I calmly walked by without freaking out at all. *ahem* It was the opening game of the season so it was huge! fireworks in the stadium, island dancers, Bear came sliding all the way down the bleacher stairs, all sorts of fun. We whomped the Clippers! I never realized how fun basketball games are! Especially when they are free and you get to go with the stud who got the tickets.

We had our waltz test today in our social dance class. Can I just say that Austin Tyler Fife is an incredible waltzer! He makes me feel like a princess. Dancesport is next weekend, and my Prince turns into a suave Latin dancer for the chacha!

Halloween was a blast! We are on the activities committee and our ward had a "fall fest." We were in charge of the photo booth, so we had plenty of time to do the "aaaaaaahbstacle course," the pirate sword fighting, face painting, and pumpkin bowling. I convinced Austin to go as Prince Charming, isn't he a sweetheart, and I was Cinderella.

Then on Halloween we went to Nick's stake party! They held it in a place called Noah's and it was spectacular. It was the kind of building you wanted to play hide and seek in. They had indoor tennis and racquetball, movies, pool tables, food, a huge dance and a simulated bucking bull in the front. We decided to go as Salt and Pepper for this event, cuz my Cinderella skirt was way too big to get my groove on at the dance. So Austin wore all black with a "P" on his front, and I wore all white with an "S." It was especially fun because last Halloween, when we were dating, we went to a Halloween dance too! Not to sound cocky or anything, but we rocked that dance floor! ;)

One year ago...

Austin took me on my first motorcycle ride up Provo canyon. We hiked up a little ways, laid out a picnic, had a wonderful conversation and Austin Fife asked me to be his girlfriend. I circled yes. One the way back down after two foot bridges (I chickened out) at the third, and most perfect foot bridge, Austin planted my very first kiss ever on my lips.

Today ready with the same picnic we had last year (pb&j, grapes, and fruit pizza) we headed up Provo canyon the happiest newlyweds you've ever seen. Austin is so wonderful. In fact last night he took me to the planetarium (a repeat of our second date ever). I'm in heaven.

Thursday, October 15, 2009 the eye of the beholder

What a gorgeous day! I was walking through BYU campus down to where the car was parked and I couldn't help snagging a couple brightly colored leaves as I passed by. It reminded me of a day when Sterling (one of my little brothers) brought home his own leaf treasures in a brown paper bag and showed mom with pride, "look at my 'bootiful' leafs." Inside his brown paper lunch bag were several brown crunchy dead leaves. Probably the ugliest leaves I'd ever seen, but to him they were "bootiful." Oh how often I search for the perfect, unblemished, just the right size, delicate, pleasently colored everything, and pass by the brown or bug eaten little guys that are so full of personality. It's no wonder Jesus commanded us to become as little children. Not "childish" but child-like.

Some places I've lived

Made in Taiwan

Lewiston Idaho, where most of my childhood memories are from.

North Salt Lake, hard time.

Living with Uncle Rob and Aunt Joy in Bountiful Utah.

Highland Utah for Jr High

With a little interruption to go to Seoul, South Korea.

and Sanbon, Korea to finish off a wild 8th grade year.

Back to Highland UT

One year in Rexburg, ID

The tropical island of Saipan for a one of a kind senior year.

Now married and happy in Provo, UT!

and Austin, if I'd lived somewhere as beautiful as Federal Way, Washington I would have stayed put too.

Budgets: and why they are awesome!

"We tell our money where to go instead of wondering where it went"

Let me tell you, I'm so lucky that Austin loves budgeting so much. He keeps me in line. We don't have a lot of money but it is so freeing knowing exactly where it's going, why it's going, and when it's going.

Here's Margaret in "the kitchen"

Check out that static hair!

Austin and Benji playing with blocks; Benjamin is wearing his "bass-a-ket ba shirt"

It's not often you get a job that you can wake up two minutes before, jump out of bed, and open your backdoor, and then make forts!

Our party house!

We are still amazed at what a great place we found for such a reasonable price. The living room is huge! Here is a half shot of the kitchen with Austin looking like a stud.

The bathroom

Me trying to get a shot of me and the fireplace and bookshelves...guess it turned out to be just me...oh well! We love our place!

Because we decided to be fans this year

He had his Dr. Pepper in hand, popcorn and sour patch kids, I couldn't resist. Though I still think I'm more of a fan; he isn't even wearing BYU blue!

We lost, miserably that game, but by golly we are still fans!
